Work In Progress

This page will allow you to download the current work in progress version of WINTNC. The WIP version will contain the updates that have been made since the last release and should be classed as a test version rather than an official release. You can install this version by simply replacing your current WINTNC.EXE with the one made available below.

The WIP version :

  • Adds the cls command to clear the screen and home the cursor in a TNC window
  • Sends your ID through the UNPROTO path
  • Made the UNPROTO path configurable via the Alt-S, Port Configuration dialog box
  • Now retains the SSID if MyCall contains one, previously stripped the SSID when making a connect
  • Added a KISS over TCP option to port configuration
  • Added APRS features
  • Made TNC window text font and size configurable
  • Implemented workaround to cure stack overflow issue preventing the software starting on some Windows 11 installations (Many thanks to Brook, N5DGK, for helping me sort this issue)
  • Minor bug fixes and other small improvements

If you set the UNPROTO path to something like :

UNPROTO CQ VIA DIG1-1, DIG2-8

then your ID will be sent out through this path :

You can specify a different UNPROTO path per port via the Alt-S Port Configuration dialog box. The default is CQ but you can change it to something like CQ VIA DIG1-8, DIG2-4 etc as shown below :

The KISS over TCP option can be used to connect to a KISS mode TNC over TCP rather than serial. This works with the PicoAPRS and DireWolf and no doubt others which I am unaware of. You just need to specify the IP address of the TNC and port to connect to as shown below. The default port is 8001.

I am also adding APRS features. This is still very much WIP but I am releasing a WIP version containing what I have working so far. See APRS for more information on this and the manual changes required to the WINTNC.INI file.

You can also now set the TNC window font and size through the Alt-S Video Configuration dialog box. The program enumerates all fixed pitch fonts available on your system but not all are usable as some don't support the full unicode characters required for drawing the box lines. You will have to try some and see what works best for you. I currently use Lucida Console size 16 :

The latest version also seems to work OK using PlayOnLinux so you can now run WINTNC on your Linux box as well ! Also, it may work on a Mac using PlayOnMac but I haven't personally tried this yet. If you have and it works, please let me know.

You can download the WIP version below :

Simply open the ZIP file and replace your current WINTNC.EXE file with the one in the ZIP file (backing up your current WINTNC.EXE file first !)
